Homemade Onion Dip Recipe

Homemade Onion Dip Recipe Image

This mimics the flavor of onion dip made with instant onion soup mix. I can't find that around here, but I came up with this great substitute using only four ingredients.

Turn those plain old potato chips into a real treat at your next party.

Difficulty: Easy.
Prep time: 5 minutes.
Servings: 1 container (300ml, or about 1 1/4 cups).

Ingredients

  • 300 ml (1 1/4 cup) Sour Cream. Use store-bought, or try our Homemade Sour Cream.
  • 6.00 grams (2 tsp) Beef Bouillon.
  • 7 grams (2 tbsp) Dried Chopped Onion. You can substitute dried minced, flakes, or packaged fried onions. Fresh caramelized onions are not quite as interesting for this recipe.
  • 0.78 grams (1/4 tsp) Garlic Powder.

Preparation

  1. If you have only bouillon cubes, wrap them in plastic wrap and heat in a microwave for 30 to 40 seconds, and you can then squish them into something close to a powder.
  2. Thoroughly combine all ingredients in a sealable container.
  3. Chill until ready to use, but at least 30 minutes so the dry ingredients can diffuse into the Sour Cream.

Serving Suggestions

Serve with unflavored potato chips or even plain crackers.

Storage

Store refrigerated in sealed container for up to two weeks.
