Chocolate Icing Recipe
This Chocolate Icing is very easy to make. One cup is enough for a 20 to 23cm (8 to 9 inch) round or square cake, or about 30 cupcakes.
Difficulty: Easy.
Prep time: 5 minutes.
Servings: 1 cups (plenty for a Boston Cream Pie or 12 Cupcakes).
Ingredients
- 10.25 grams (1/8 cup) Cocoa powder, unsweetened. This makes "light" flavored icing. For medium flavor, multiply by 2, and for "dark" flavor multiply by 3.
- 125.00 grams (1 cup) Powdered Sugar.
- 42.60 grams (3 tbsp) Butter or Margarine, softened.
- 30.25 grams (2 tbsp) Whole Milk. You can substitute water here if necessary.
- 2.50 ml (1/2 tsp) Vanilla Flavoring (Extract or Essence).
- 20.50 grams (1 tbsp) Corn Syrup (optional).
Preparation
- In one bowl, combine the Cocoa Powder and Sugar.
- In a separate bowl, cream together the Butter and half of the Cocoa Powder/Sugar mixture.
- Slowly blend in a little of the remaining Cocoa Powder/Sugar mixture and some of the Milk in a few steps, beating to a spreadable consistency.
- Blend in Vanilla Flavoring.
- For a glossier icing, blend in the optional Corn Syrup.
- Chill until ready to use.
