Breadcrumb Crust Recipe
Use this Breadcrumb Crust recipe to make a crunchy crust for cheesecakes and some pies. It is easy to make, and costs a fraction of a premade pie crust.
Difficulty: Easy.
Prep time: 5 minutes.
Cook time: 12 minutes to dry bread, 8 minutes for baking.
Servings: 1 crust.
Ingredients
- 168.0 grams (1 1/2 cups) Breadcrumbs, Graham Crackers (10 sheets), or even simple cookies.
- 50 grams (1/4 cup) Granulated Sugar.
- 71.00 grams (5 tbsp) Butter/Margarine, melted, or Oil. Unsalted butter is preferred, but salted is not fatal. I frequently use Canola Oil.
- 2.64 grams (1 tsp) Cinnamon Powder (optional). Omit this if using flavored crumbs such as Graham Crackers.
Preparation
- If making your own breadcrumbs, dry two slices of sandwich bread in your oven at the lowest temperature for about 12 minutes. The bread should be dry, but not as hard as toast.
- Break or cut the bread or crackers into pieces, and then crush them into crumbs in a blender or food processor.
- Combine Breadcrumbs, Sugar, the Butter, Margarine, or Oil, and optional Cinnamon in blender or food processor until mixed.
- Empty the mixture into your baking dish or cake pan, spread it out, and pack down with a spatula or a cup. It's not necessary to make it hard as a rock like a premade crust.
- Bake at 180°C (350°F) for 8 minutes.
- Cool before adding your filling.
